Wools
Our wools come from a protected zone of the Serra da Estrela National Park in Portugal, in the glacial valley of Zêzere, the largest in Europe.
Since the 12th century this region has been recognised for the its activity is the textile industry, enjoying a well-earned prestige due to the quality of its wool, the quality of manufacture that demands innate manual skills.
This third generation family company has its main objective of keeping this cultural heritage of quality, preserving the traditional methods handed down from generation to generation.
To obtain an authentic and natural product of high quality, the company takes care of all the processes which starts with the shearing of the sheep in May to the final production.
The manufacture of these wool products requires a great expertise, namely:
- Careful selection of the wool, native to the region, without use of herbicides or fertilizers and retaining only 50% of the finest wool. The natural colours, not dyed, keeping the proteins in the core of the wool in perfect condition. Its properties including natural stretch; it fits the shape of the body, can be twisted, turned and it return to its natural shape. The pure new wool is the most resistant of all natural textiles fibres.
- Washing wool with soft spring water captured about 1400 metres of altitude, filtered by the granitic springs of the region, absolute guaranteed free of pollution. This purity and freshness (constant temperature of 7ºC) enables
through cleaning without adding chemicals.
- Manual skills looms with shuttle, fringes twisted by hand, the labels made of recycled paper and wool are manually set, manual finishes of the blankets and burel appliqué embroidery, for an added touch of distinction.
It assumes visible form in a wide range of ready-made products like scarves, plaids, blankets, etc - but also tailor made such as clothing (coats, jackets, hats) made to order.
